The Town of Moriah Town Board will hold their monthly board meeting for June on Thursday,  June 26, 2025 at 6pm at the Town of Moriah Court House, 42 Park Place, Port Henry, NY.  The public is welcome to attend.  Thank you!

Board of Assessment Review Member

The Town of Moriah Town Board is seeking an applicant to fill a seat on the Board of Assessment Review.  The term for a Board of Assessment Review member is 5 years commencing October 1 and terminating on September 30.  Applicants must be a citizen of the Town of Moriah and have a general knowledge of property values.  Successful applicants are required to attend a 4 hour training course in Elizabethtown upon appointment and reappointment.  The training course shall include the functions, duties and responsibilities of the Board of Assessment Review, assessment review, assessment procedures and exemption administration.  The Board of Assessment Review will hear complaints in regards to assessment of Real Property the fourth Tuesday in May and at any adjourned or 2nd meetings as required throughout the year.  Compensation is $300.00 per calendar year.  If interested, please send a letter of interest to Matthew Brassard, Town of Moriah Supervisor, 38 Park Place, Port Henry, NY  12974.

Tentative Assessment Roll On File

Notice is hereby given that the Assessors of the Town of Moriah, County of Essex have completed the Tentative Assessment Roll for the current year and that a copy has been left with the Town Clerk at Moriah Town Hall where it may be seen and examined by any interested person until the fourth Tuesday in May.

The Assessors will be in attendance at 4303 Main Street (former Village Hall), Port Henry, NY with the Tentative Assessment Roll on the following days:

                                    

                                    Tuesday, May 6, 2025             10 AM – 2 PM

                                    Tuesday, May 13, 2025          4 PM – 8 PM

                                    Saturday, May 17, 2025          10 AM – 2 PM

                                    Tuesday, May 20, 2025          10 AM – 2 PM

The Board of Assessment Review will meet on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 between the hours of 4 PM and 8 PM at the Moriah Court House, 42 Park Place, Port Henry, NY 12974, to hear and examine all complaints in relation to assessments, on the formal written application of any person believing him/herself to be aggrieved.  A publication on contesting your assessment in New York State is available at the Town Clerk’s Office or at www.tax.ny.gov .

NOTICE CONCERNING THE EXAMINATION OF INVENTORY AND VALUATION DATA

Pursuant to section 501 of the Real Property Tax Law, notice is hereby given that assessment inventory and valuation data is available for examination and review.  This data is the information which will be used to establish the assessment of each parcel which will appear on the tentative assessment roll filed on May 1, 2025 for the Town of Moriah.  An appointment to review this information may be made by phoning the assessor’s office at (518) 546-3098.

Highway Department-Heavy Equipment Operator

The Town of Moriah Highway Department seeks applications for the full time position of Heavy Equipment Operator.  Applicant must possess a valid New York State Class B CDL License or Permit at the time of appointment. 

Job specifications detailing the minimum qualifications are available by calling Highway Superintendent, Jamie Wilson at 518-942-7155. 

Successful applicant must pass a pre-employment physical which includes mandatory drug testing and the position remains subject to the Town of Moriah’s random drug testing policy during the course of employment.

Town Board Meeting’s – Week Day Change

The Town of Moriah Town Board will hold their regular monthly board meetings on the 3rd Thursday of every month instead of the 2nd Thursday of every month due to a scheduling conflict.  They will be held at the Town of Moriah Court House, 42 Park Place, Port Henry, NY at 6:00pm.  The public is welcome to attend.

REVALUATION PROJECT

The Town of Moriah will be conducting a Revaluation Project for the year 2024. The assessors for the Town and / or Data Collectors from the Essex County Real Property Tax Service Office will be visiting each parcel to verify property information in an effort to maintain a fair and equitable assessment roll.

Effective immediately the Town will no longer be charging for the disposal of elctronic waste at the Transfer Station.  The Town will still accept electronic waste as per DEC regulations but the manufacturer is now responsible for any associated recycling costs.

If Moriah Central School has a snow day on a Wednesday, the Town of Moriah Food Pantry will not be open that day.  We apologize for any inconvenience.
