Join CATS for an early morning snowshoe through the Split Rock Wild Forest in Essex to see the sunrise over Lake Champlain.
Split Rock Forest is part of the Split Rock Wildway - an ambitious effort to create a wildlife corridor connecting Lake Champlain and the high peaks of New York’s Adirondack Mountains. The goal is habitat connectivity—ensuring wild creatures have room to roam. CATS is a key partner in this private-public conservation effort.
The hike will be approximately 4 miles (roundtrip) on a gently sloping trail, ending with a spectacular view from the Snake Den Overlook. The hike begins at 5:30 am for the 7:02 am sunrise. Based on projected weather conditions, the hike and start time will be confirmed on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Please wear warm clothes and snowshoes. We have several pairs of snowshoes available to borrow with advance notice. Please let us know in the registration link.
DIRECTIONS: We’ll meet at the Split Rock Forest Trailhead parking area on Lake Shore Road at 5:20 am. The hike will leave at 5:30 am for the 7:02 am sunrise.
