1st Day Hike: Wildlife Walk on the Mild Side
Ring in the new year on the majestic shores of Lake Champlain and Bulwagga Bay while scouting wildlife across Crown Point State Historic Site. This easy, 2 mile walk may offer sightings of some visiting winter raptors, songbirds or winter finches. Open water will likely host Scaup, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye and other waterfowl. We’ll also be observing wildlife tracks and discuss the flora and fauna of the winter forest and shoreline. Scouting and discussion led by Stacy Robinson and Ellie George.
About our guides:
Stacy Robinson lives in Port Henry NY and actively enjoys many outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking, and birding. Year round she enjoys bird watching at the Crown Point SHS and has observed over 200 species on the property. As a citizen-scientist Stacy has contributed over 4,500 observations into Cornell's eBird database including some 1,000 photos of 300+ birds species and more than 200 sound recordings.
Ellie George lives in Paradox, NY, and has been fascinated by everything that crawls, swims, flies, climbs, and grows since she was four years old. Her M.A. degree in biology has further aided her understanding of the wildlife and plants in the region, and she has taught biology labs at Skidmore College, created and presented programs with the Scotia-Glenville Children’s Museum, and is a summer loon field technician with the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation. Ellie loves to cross country ski, hike, canoe, bird, fish, and romp with her yellow lab, Maple
FREE. All ages, approximately 90 minutes. Meet at the museum, refreshments served in the pavilion afterwards. Binoculars and field guides available. If the ground is white, bring snowshoes. If you see brown, wear sturdy, warm waterproof boots. Rain date will be scheduled in the event of a storm.
